FG to rank tertiary institutions on 22 indicators

The Federal Government has begun a national ranking of universities, polytechnics and colleges of education, with the exercise scheduled for completion by December 15, 2026.

The Nigerian Tertiary Education Ranking Advisory Committee said universities would be assessed using 22 indicators designed to measure institutional performance and identify areas for improvement. The exercise is also expected to promote competition and strengthen the global standing of Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.

The ranking will cover teaching, research, industry engagement, international collaboration and other performance areas. The government said the exercise would provide institutions with a national benchmark for identifying gaps and improving their performance.
