Sadio Mané Launches $20.4m Mango Processing Plant in Senegal

Senegalese football star Sadio Mané has launched a $20.4 million agro-industrial project in his hometown of Bambali, southern Senegal.

The project, known as SM10 Agro, was launched on September 19 and is aimed at expanding mango processing and creating jobs in the region.

The facility will have the capacity to process about 8,500 tonnes of mangoes annually into products including mango pulp, dried fruit and mango butter. It will also include a 500-hectare Kent mango plantation.

The project is located in Casamance, one of Senegal’s major mango-producing regions, where limited processing facilities have contributed to significant post-harvest losses.

Speaking at the launch, Mané said he wanted his legacy to extend beyond football, adding that the project was designed to create jobs and support agricultural development in his hometown.

The investment comes as Senegal’s mango export industry recovers from challenges, including fruit-fly infestations and restrictions affecting access to the European market.
