Sokoto Govt Shuts Mosque, Orders Probe Into Attack

The Sokoto State Government has ordered the immediate closure of Sheikh Musa Ayuba Lukuwa Jumu’at Mosque in the Mabera area of Sokoto metropolis following an alleged attack on the cleric after Friday prayers.

The government also ordered a full investigation into the attack and the subsequent killing of the suspected assailant.

It said the mosque would remain closed as the scene of the incident to allow security agencies conduct their investigation.

The state government has also constituted a committee of Islamic scholars to investigate the causes of recent religious tensions in parts of the metropolis and recommend measures to prevent further escalation.

The government urged residents to avoid inflammatory statements and stressed that grievances arising from religious disagreements should be addressed through lawful channels.

It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace across the state.
