Police Warn of Planned Attacks on Schools, NYSC Camps

The Nigeria Police Force has heightened security around schools, NYSC orientation camps, places of worship and other vulnerable locations following intelligence about planned terrorist attacks across the country.

Police intelligence indicated increased mobilisation of terrorist elements and surveillance of potential targets, with the threats coming as the 2026/2027 academic session resumes.

The police also reported the movement of armed elements from Katsina through Kaduna towards Plateau State and said suspected Islamic State West Africa Province operatives and local collaborators were conducting reconnaissance of potential targets.

Police commands nationwide have been directed to intensify surveillance, patrols, stop-and-search operations and access control around vulnerable locations. Security has also been tightened at state borders and major entry and exit routes.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps said it had doubled its intelligence network to protect schools and other learning institutions, while urging parents to allow their children to return to school and cooperate with security agencies.

Former security chiefs Ali Amodu and Mike Ejiofor also urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons, vehicles and movements to security agencies.

Meanwhile, the National Parent Teacher Association of Nigeria said parents were concerned about the safety of their children. The association called for stronger security around schools, greater use of technology and renewed implementation of the Safe School Initiative.

The latest warning follows previous attacks on schools and public institutions, including the May 2026 abduction of 49 pupils, teachers and a toddler from three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
