Kenneth Okonkwo, spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign, has projected that Atiku will win all 19 northern states and three states in the Southwest in the 2027 presidential election.
Okonkwo made the projection during an interview on AIT’s Democracy Today, saying the African Democratic Congress, on whose platform Atiku is expected to contest, has gained significant support across the North.
He attributed the projected support to growing dissatisfaction with the economic situation under the Bola Tinubu administration, citing the minimum wage and rising petrol prices.
Okonkwo also predicted that the opposition would win more than two states in the South-South and secure at least 25 per cent of the votes across the region.
In the Southwest, he identified Osun, Ondo and Ogun as states where Atiku could emerge victorious. He cited what he described as internal crises within the APC in Ondo and Ogun as factors that could favour the opposition.
Okonkwo also claimed that President Tinubu was not sufficiently popular in Lagos, the President’s political stronghold.
