Okpebholo Rewards Edo Queens N50m for WAFU-B Title

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has rewarded Edo Queens with N50 million following their victory in the 2026 WAFU-B Women’s Champions League.

The governor announced the reward on Tuesday during a ceremony at the Government House in Benin, where the team presented the 2025/26 Nigeria Women’s Football League and WAFU-B titles.

Edo Queens defeated Ghanaian side Ampem Darkoa Ladies 4-1 on penalties after a 2-2 draw at the end of regulation time.

Okpebholo commended the players for their resilience and determination throughout the competition, while also praising the goalkeeper for her crucial saves during the penalty shootout.

He also acknowledged the contributions of the coaching and technical crew to the team’s success.

Chairman of the Edo Sports Commission, Amadin Enabulele, said winning both the NWFL and WAFU-B titles in the same season was a major achievement for the state.

He praised the players, coaches and management for their discipline, unity and commitment, saying the team had made Edo State proud.
