The Oyo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, has partnered with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to tackle drug abuse and related security challenges across the state.
The collaboration was strengthened during a sensitisation programme organised by the NDLEA for Amotekun operatives in Oyo State.
The programme focused on drug abuse prevention, identifying substance-related risks, responsible conduct and community-based approaches to promoting drug-free communities.
The Amotekun Corps Commandant, Col. Olayinka Olayanju (retd.), stressed the importance of continuous training to enable personnel to identify emerging drug-related risks and respond appropriately.
He urged the operatives to apply the knowledge gained in their daily duties through responsible observation, information gathering and collaboration with relevant agencies.
The NDLEA also called for greater cooperation among security agencies, families, schools, community leaders and other stakeholders in the fight against drug abuse.
The agency identified peer influence, curiosity, stress, trauma, unemployment and social pressure as some factors that contribute to substance abuse.
NDLEA officials further urged Amotekun personnel to properly verify and document suspected drug-related cases before referring them to the appropriate authorities.
