Students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, on Thursday blocked major roads around the institution to protest the prolonged 68-day strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

The students, led by the Students’ Union Government, shut the university’s main gate and adjoining roads, disrupting vehicular movement in the area.

The protesters called for urgent government intervention to resolve the issues behind the strike and allow academic activities to resume.

SUG President, Folagbade Greatness Ayoola, said students could no longer remain silent over the prolonged disruption, adding that many were worried about their academic future.

He alleged that students continued to pay school fees despite the suspension of academic activities, while lecturers were also reportedly owed salaries.

The SUG General Secretary, Oluwatimileyin Amos, said students had spent more than two months at home, with pending graduates particularly affected by the disruption.

Other student leaders appealed to the government and relevant stakeholders to resolve the outstanding issues and reopen the university.

The students said they would continue to pursue the matter through legitimate and peaceful means until the strike is resolved.
