Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke have raided a suspected terrorist hideout in Peva, Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State, arresting five persons believed to be associates of a notorious bandit.
The operation was carried out early Thursday following credible intelligence on the location of the hideout.
According to the Acting Media Information Officer of OPWS, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, the suspected terrorists fled before the troops arrived after allegedly receiving information about the operation.
A search of the area led to the arrest of the five suspects and the recovery of two AK-47 rifle magazines, 46 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a camouflage jacket and hat, as well as charm vests and assorted charms.
The military said the arrests and recovered items would provide useful leads in efforts to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal group.
Operation Whirl Stroke reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining operations against terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements in Taraba and surrounding areas.
The military also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies.
