The controversy surrounding the 2026 West African Examinations Council results has deepened following allegations of irregularities and technical glitches by a WAEC official.

The Head of Examinations at the WAEC office in Anambra, Olanrewaju Fadehan, alleged that candidates who took the Computer-Based Test were particularly affected by problems during the release of the results.

Fadehan claimed that the alleged issues affected subjects including Mathematics, English and Igbo. He also raised concerns about the performance of some candidates and the impact of the CBT transition on schools that invested heavily in examination facilities.

He further alleged that some candidates were not provided with appropriate calculators during the examination, which he said may have affected performance in Mathematics and other calculation-based subjects.

Fadehan said he had petitioned the WAEC Board, the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and Examining Bodies and the Minister of Education over the alleged irregularities. He also called for a government investigation into the matter.

However, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, declined to comment on the allegations, saying there was “no comment for now.”

The controversy follows earlier complaints from school administrators and education advocates over alleged grading anomalies and technical glitches linked to the expanded CBT rollout.
