The Federal Government has said investment in women’s health is critical to achieving Nigeria’s ambition of becoming a $1tn economy.

The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, stated this at the Her Health, Her Power Conference Africa 2026 in Abuja.

The minister, represented by the Director-General of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women’s Development, Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi, said improving women’s wellbeing must be treated as a foundation for sustainable development.

She called for stronger collaboration among government, the private sector, civil society and healthcare professionals to improve women’s health outcomes.

Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, also urged political leaders to give greater attention to women’s access to healthcare and education, stressing the link between women’s wellbeing and economic growth.

The minister urged stakeholders to move beyond discussions and turn commitments from the conference into measurable action.
