The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has ordered an immediate end to the use of green areas, parks and gardens in Abuja as car dealership lots.

Wike also directed the authorities to stop all unauthorised use of the spaces and set up a task force to enforce the directive.

The FCT Administration said the move is part of efforts to address flooding in the Federal Capital Territory. It also ordered an investigation into officials accused of granting illegal approvals for the conversion of green areas to car lots.

The affected officials, including directors in relevant FCT departments, have been summoned by the FCT Head of Service, Nancy Nathan.

Wike had earlier ordered the demolition of structures built on natural waterways and flood channels following recent flooding in parts of Abuja.
