The Osun State Commissioner of Police, Samuel Etaifo, has warned politicians against making inciting comments or engaging in acts capable of triggering violence ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

The warning followed an invitation extended to Senator Francis Fadahunsi over alleged inciting comments against members of the Accord Party in Ilesa on Tuesday.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, Etaifo urged political leaders and public office holders to exercise restraint and promote peace during the electoral process.

He said the police would not tolerate any statement or conduct capable of disrupting public peace, inciting violence or threatening the security of the state.

The commissioner said Fadahunsi was invited to clarify the alleged statement and help foster peace and understanding ahead of the election.

Etaifo stressed that the invitation was not an act of intimidation but part of measures to prevent tension from escalating and ensure a peaceful, free, fair and credible election.

He urged political actors, their supporters and residents to remain law-abiding, avoid inflammatory rhetoric and channel grievances through lawful means.
