The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 2,339,233 registered voters will be eligible to participate in the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.

The commission disclosed this while presenting the official voter register to political parties participating in the election, urging them to use the document responsibly and refrain from any form of electoral malpractice.

INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Osun State, Oluwatoyin Babalola, warned political parties against using the voter register for vote-buying, voter intimidation, profiling, or any activity capable of undermining the credibility of the election.

She said the register should instead serve as a tool for voter education, issue-based campaigns, and encouraging greater participation in the electoral process.

According to Babalola, political parties should engage voters with their programmes, policies, and ideas, enabling citizens to make informed choices at the polls rather than resorting to inducement or other unlawful practices.

INEC also disclosed that 395,995 of the registered voters were added during the 2025/2026 Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

The commission further revealed that it had processed 499,809 Permanent Voter Card (PVC)-related applications, including fresh registrations, transfers, replacements, and updates.

Providing an update on preparations for the election, the REC said the commission has now received about 95 per cent of the non-sensitive election materials, an improvement from the 80 per cent recorded a week earlier.

She added that the materials are already being distributed across the state’s local government areas and polling units, assuring political parties, election observers, and voters that preparations for the August 15 governorship election remain on schedule.
