The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on President Bola Tinubu to suspend the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, following allegations linking him to the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

In a statement issued on Friday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC said suspending the Chief of Staff would allow for what it described as a transparent and independent investigation into the allegations.

According to the party, the controversy involves claims made by Prince Mathew Adeniyi Adeyemi, who identifies himself as the Director-General of the alleged PFIPC. Adeyemi claimed that the agency received allocations in the 2026 budget and opened several financial accounts, including a domiciliary account, a Pound Sterling account, and a Treasury Single Account (TSA) with the Central Bank of Nigeria, despite the Presidency maintaining that no such agency exists.

The NDC questioned how an agency reportedly not recognized by the Presidency could allegedly complete such administrative and financial processes. The party also raised concerns over claims that the Head of the Civil Service approved hundreds of staff positions for the agency, calling for explanations from the relevant government institutions.

The party further referred to allegations that Gbajabiamila demanded a significant portion of the agency’s proposed take-off funding. It also cited claims by Adeyemi that he paid hundreds of millions of naira through intermediaries to secure his appointment. The NDC stressed that these allegations remain unproven but argued they warrant a thorough investigation.

In addition, the party expressed concern over the reported death of Babatunde Tanimola, who was allegedly involved as an intermediary in the matter, as well as claims by Adeyemi that there had been attempts on his life. The NDC called for both incidents to be investigated as part of a broader inquiry.

Among its demands, the party urged the President to establish an independent investigative panel to examine the allegations, including the reported budget allocations, financial accounts, staff approvals, and other related transactions. It also called for witness protection for Adeyemi and requested that relevant officials from the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service be questioned.

The NDC also appealed to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Nigeria Police Force to launch independent investigations into the matter.

The party maintained that Nigerians deserve a transparent investigation and said anyone found responsible for any wrongdoing should face prosecution in accordance with the law. At the time of the statement, the allegations remained unproven, and no court had established liability against any of the individuals mentioned.
