The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Southwest zone, Adegoke Fayoade, has assured that efforts are underway to secure the release of schoolchildren and their teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State last month.
Fayoade said all security agencies, in collaboration with government authorities, are working tirelessly to ensure the safe return of the victims and expressed confidence that their release would be achieved soon.
The assurance comes amid growing public concern over the abduction. Hundreds of residents staged a protest in Ibadan, demanding the immediate rescue of the 39 pupils and six teachers still in captivity.
The protesters temporarily disrupted traffic and commercial activities along Iwo Road as they displayed placards calling for urgent government action to address insecurity and secure the release of the abductees.
Among their demands were improved security across communities, safer roads, protection for farmers, traders, students and families, and the restoration of peace and justice throughout the state.
Some protesters also offered prayers for the safe return of the victims and an end to kidnapping and other criminal activities in Oyo State.
Speakers at the demonstration expressed concern over the increasing incidence of kidnapping in parts of the state, warning that many residents now live in fear due to rising insecurity.
Fayoade reiterated the commitment of security agencies to tackling criminal activities and restoring public confidence in the state’s security architecture.
