The Oyo State Government has stepped up enforcement of its anti-open grazing law with the impoundment of six cows found grazing illegally in different parts of Ibadan.

The operation was carried out by the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) during routine monitoring aimed at ensuring compliance with the state’s livestock management regulations.

According to the Authority, enforcement officers intercepted cattle grazing openly along Old Ife Road, Alakia and Elebu Idi Ahun in Ido Local Government Area. Five cows found violating the state’s anti-open grazing law were impounded during the operation.

In a separate enforcement exercise on the same day, officials responded to reports of cattle roaming along the Mokola highway in Ibadan. Three cows were found on the road, posing a risk to motorists and other road users. One of the animals was impounded, while the other two escaped before they could be apprehended.

The Authority said the operations form part of ongoing efforts to enforce the state’s livestock control laws, improve public safety and promote orderly livestock management across Oyo State.

Chairperson of OYRLEA, retired Justice Aderonke Aderemi, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to strict enforcement of the anti-open grazing policy. She stated that monitoring activities would continue across the state and warned that anyone found violating the law would face appropriate sanctions.

She added that the government remains committed to protecting lives and property, preventing avoidable accidents, and ensuring compliance with laws designed to promote peaceful coexistence and environmental order.
