Police officers on Friday fired tear gas to disperse protesters who took to the streets of Abuja to demonstrate against worsening economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, and the rising cost of living.

The protest coincided with Nigeria’s celebration of the 27th anniversary of uninterrupted democratic rule, as demonstrators called on the government to take urgent steps to address the country’s growing socio-economic challenges.

The protesters expressed concerns over the increasing burden of inflation, rising food prices, and the high cost of living, urging authorities to implement measures that would improve the welfare of citizens.

They also highlighted the deteriorating security situation across parts of the country, citing recent incidents of kidnappings and attacks as evidence of the need for stronger action to protect lives and property.

Despite the police deployment and the use of tear gas to disperse the crowd, the demonstrators maintained that their protest was aimed at drawing attention to the urgent need for good governance, improved security, and economic reforms that would ease the hardship faced by millions of Nigerians.
