President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in their belief in the country, even when they disagree with or criticise his administration.
Speaking in a nationwide broadcast to commemorate the 27th anniversary of Nigeria’s uninterrupted democratic rule on Friday, the President stressed that constructive criticism is a vital part of democracy but warned against losing faith in the nation.
He noted that democracy can only thrive when citizens continue to trust in the country’s institutions and democratic process, describing the National Assembly, the judiciary, the media, and civil society as essential pillars that safeguard Nigeria’s democracy.
The President appealed to citizens to remain committed to national development, saying, “Criticise me, disagree with me, but never stop believing in the nation.”
Addressing young Nigerians, Tinubu encouraged them to build their future at home by contributing to the country’s growth and development.
“Nigeria is your home and your future. Build here, work here, and eat here. Every great nation was built by those who stayed to solve problems, not by those who abandoned ship,” he said.
The President also commended members of the armed forces, the police, and intelligence agencies for their dedication to protecting the country. He equally expressed appreciation to traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community heads for their continued efforts in promoting peace, unity, and reconciliation across the nation.
