The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has directed senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force to adopt proactive, intelligence-driven, and adaptive strategies in tackling the country’s evolving security challenges.
The directive was issued during the monthly conference of strategic senior police officers held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The meeting brought together Deputy Inspectors-General of Police, Assistant Inspectors-General, Commissioners of Police, and other senior officers to review the nation’s security landscape and evaluate ongoing policing operations.
Addressing participants, the IGP highlighted the persistent threats facing the country, including kidnapping, armed robbery, terrorism, banditry, cult-related violence, farmer-herder clashes, and cybercrime. He stressed the need for stronger leadership, improved coordination, and more effective operational responses to stay ahead of criminal elements.
Disu disclosed that the Force recorded notable achievements since its last strategic meeting in May 2026. According to him, police operatives arrested eight suspected terrorists, 55 kidnapping suspects, 65 armed robbery suspects, 29 murder suspects, and 42 suspected cultists during various operations across the country.
He further revealed that 88 kidnapped victims were successfully rescued, while law enforcement officers recovered 114 firearms, 843 rounds of ammunition, and 28 stolen vehicles.
The IGP directed Commissioners of Police across the federation to strengthen intelligence gathering mechanisms and expand community policing efforts. He also instructed police commands to maintain regular engagement with traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, market associations, transport unions, and other community stakeholders.
According to him, public trust and active community participation remain critical components of effective policing and crime prevention.
Disu reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and discipline, urging senior officers to lead by example and uphold the highest standards of conduct within their commands.
He also emphasized the importance of prioritising personnel welfare and ensuring strict adherence to established operational procedures.
The police chief further encouraged improved engagement with the media to promote transparency, enhance public understanding of policing activities, and combat the spread of misinformation.
The conference forms part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen internal coordination and improve security operations nationwide amid growing concerns over criminal activities in various parts of the country.
