Hundreds of concerned residents in Ogun State on Monday staged a peaceful protest against the worsening security situation in the country, calling on the Federal Government and security agencies to take urgent and decisive action to protect lives and property.

The demonstrators, made up of youths, traders, professionals, parents, religious leaders, and nursing mothers, gathered in Abeokuta to express their frustration over the growing cases of kidnapping, banditry, terrorism, and violent attacks affecting communities across Nigeria. Carrying placards with various messages, the protesters demanded stronger measures to tackle insecurity and restore public confidence in the nation’s security architecture.

Many of the participants described the current security challenges as a national emergency, stressing that citizens now live in constant fear and uncertainty. According to them, insecurity has become a major threat to education, economic activities, social life, and the overall well-being of Nigerians.

Speaking during the demonstration, community representatives said many families now go to bed with anxiety, unsure of what the next day may bring. They lamented that criminal activities have reached a level where ordinary citizens, regardless of their social or economic status, feel vulnerable.

The protesters maintained that the safety of children, teachers, farmers, traders, and travelers should be a priority for government at all levels. They noted that attacks on schools and communities have created an atmosphere of fear, forcing many parents to worry about the safety of their children whenever they leave home.

Participants also expressed concern about the impact of insecurity on businesses and livelihoods. Several business owners explained that they have been forced to limit travel, reduce operations, or postpone important activities due to fears of attacks on highways and in rural communities. According to them, the security crisis is not only threatening lives but also affecting economic growth and productivity.

Parents at the protest described the emotional burden created by reports of violent attacks and abductions. Many said they constantly worry about the safety of children across the country, adding that every child deserves to learn and grow in a secure environment. Some mothers who attended the rally became emotional as they spoke about the fear and uncertainty faced by families affected by insecurity.

One nursing mother said she joined the demonstration because she wants a safer future for her children and future generations. She urged government officials to take urgent action to address the security challenges confronting the nation, stressing that every child deserves the opportunity to live, learn, and thrive without fear.

Religious leaders who participated in the protest called for national unity and collective action against criminality. They urged authorities to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve coordination among security agencies, and ensure that perpetrators of violent crimes are apprehended and prosecuted.

The protesters also called for increased security presence in vulnerable communities, improved protection for schools, and enhanced surveillance across forests and rural areas often exploited by criminal groups. They argued that proactive measures are necessary to prevent future attacks and reassure citizens that their safety remains a priority.

Throughout the demonstration, participants repeatedly emphasized that their gathering was peaceful and aimed at drawing attention to the urgent need for stronger security interventions. They appealed to government officials at all levels to listen to the concerns of citizens and implement practical solutions capable of addressing the root causes of insecurity.

The protesters further urged authorities to intensify ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping, terrorism, and banditry, while also investing in long-term strategies that promote peace, stability, and community safety. They stressed that the fight against insecurity requires a united approach involving government, security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, and citizens.

Security personnel were present throughout the event to maintain order and ensure the peaceful conduct of the protest. The demonstration ended without incident, with participants expressing hope that their message would prompt urgent action and renewed commitment towards securing lives, protecting communities, and restoring public confidence across the country.

The rally served as another reminder of the growing public demand for effective security measures and a safer environment where citizens can live, work, travel, and pursue their aspirations without fear.
