Several suspected bandits have been neutralised during a security operation carried out in Keta community, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The operation was reportedly conducted by operatives of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) following intelligence reports on the activities of armed groups terrorising communities within the area.
Sources familiar with the development disclosed that the operation targeted criminal elements linked to a series of attacks on residents, destruction of farmlands, cattle rustling, and looting of property across parts of Tsafe Local Government Area.
During the operation, CJTF operatives engaged the armed men in a gun battle, leading to the neutralisation of several fighters believed to be loyal to notorious bandit commanders identified as Kachalla Juli, Uti, and Ibrahim.
Residents of the area said the operation brought temporary relief to communities that had lived under constant fear due to repeated attacks by armed groups operating within the region.
In a related development, two notorious bandit leaders were reportedly killed following a violent clash between rival armed factions in Tsarika village, Musawa Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The clash, which was said to have erupted over internal disagreements among the groups, resulted in the deaths of gang leaders identified as Kachalla Liti and Kachalla Sani.
Local sources described the incident as a major setback for criminal networks operating around the Musawa and Matazu axis, areas that have experienced persistent insecurity and attacks on villages in recent months.
Residents expressed hope that the development would weaken the activities of armed groups in the region and pave the way for improved security across affected communities.
Security operations against banditry and other criminal activities have continued across several states in the North-West as authorities intensify efforts to restore peace and protect lives and property.
