Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emerged as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the January 16, 2027 presidential election following the party’s direct primary election conducted across the country.

Tinubu secured 10,999,162 votes in the exercise, defeating his opponent, Stanley Osifo, who polled 16,504 votes.

The primary election was conducted across the party’s 8,809 wards nationwide and concluded at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, where the final results were collated and announced.

The announcement was greeted with cheers from party members and leaders present at the venue, including the President’s wife, Oluremi Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, lawmakers, governors and other party stakeholders.

Party officials described the exercise as a major step toward strengthening internal democracy within the APC through the adoption of the direct primary system.

According to the party leadership, the process followed earlier primaries conducted for state assembly, National Assembly and governorship positions.

The APC leadership stated that the direct primary model was adopted to promote wider participation among party members, improve transparency and reduce issues associated with delegate-based elections.

Party officials also noted that the national collation process was broadcast live on television and online platforms to improve public confidence and demonstrate openness in the conduct of the exercise.

The ruling party maintained that the direct primary system provides members with the opportunity to participate directly in the selection process while ensuring that every vote counts.

The APC further said the model was designed to deepen democratic participation, expand inclusiveness within the party and strengthen confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process ahead of the 2027 general election.
