The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has intensified health and safety measures across the country’s international airports following renewed concerns over the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease in parts of Central Africa.

The authority said the move is aimed at preventing any possible importation of the deadly virus into Nigeria while ensuring the safety of passengers, airport workers, and other stakeholders within the aviation sector.

As part of the precautionary measures, FAAN has activated stricter passenger surveillance systems, enhanced health screening procedures, and strengthened emergency response mechanisms at major international airports nationwide. The agency noted that officials have been placed on high alert and are working closely with relevant health institutions to ensure effective monitoring of incoming travellers.

Passengers arriving from countries considered to be at higher risk are currently undergoing additional screening procedures. Health officials stationed at airports are monitoring travellers for symptoms commonly associated with Ebola, including fever, weakness, vomiting, and other related signs. Any passenger suspected of showing symptoms is expected to be immediately isolated and subjected to further medical examination in line with established national and international health protocols.

The authority explained that the measures are part of broader efforts to reassure Nigerians and the international community that the nation’s airports remain safe and fully operational despite the renewed health concerns in parts of Africa.

FAAN further stated that awareness campaigns and sensitisation programmes have also been intensified among airport personnel to ensure that workers are adequately informed about preventive measures and emergency response procedures. Staff members across various departments have reportedly been advised to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious health situations.

In addition, emergency response teams and medical units within airport facilities have been placed on standby to handle any possible outbreak-related incident swiftly and professionally. The agency stressed that collaboration with health authorities remains critical in preventing the spread of infectious diseases through air travel.

Travellers were also encouraged to cooperate fully with health officials during screening exercises and to observe all safety guidelines put in place at airports. Passengers experiencing unusual symptoms or health conditions were advised to seek immediate medical attention and report such cases to the appropriate authorities.

FAAN maintained that although there is currently no confirmed Ebola case in Nigeria, the authority remains proactive and committed to protecting public health while sustaining safe and efficient airport operations across the country.

The agency reiterated that continuous monitoring, strict compliance with health regulations, and coordinated efforts among aviation and health agencies would remain essential in safeguarding the nation against any potential public health threat.
