Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, as well as the killing of residents in Katsina State, describing the incidents as evidence of what he called a collapse of leadership under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Atiku expressed grief over the reported killing of one of the teachers kidnapped during the Ogbomoso attack, warning that worsening insecurity across the country had exposed serious weaknesses in Nigeria’s security framework.

He criticised what he described as repeated official responses to violent attacks, saying Nigerians were tired of routine condemnations and threats without concrete action.

According to him, armed criminals now operate with confidence because they no longer fear the Nigerian state.

Atiku said the abduction in Ogbomoso and the killings in Katsina reflected a disturbing national pattern in which communities are repeatedly attacked while citizens remain vulnerable.

He argued that attacks on schools, communities and innocent residents had become increasingly alarming, adding that the inability to stop such incidents showed a failure of leadership.

The former vice president also questioned the value of repeated official statements after attacks, asking what comfort such reactions provided to grieving families and terrified parents.

He further raised concerns over alleged attempts to suppress graphic evidence and documentation of violent attacks from circulating publicly, insisting that no serious government should prioritise controlling narratives over protecting lives.

Atiku maintained that any government unable to protect citizens while allegedly seeking to censor evidence of killings had failed morally and politically.

He described the situation as not only a security failure but also a national disgrace, insisting that Nigerians deserved leadership capable of preventing attacks rather than merely reacting after tragedies occur.

He called for the immediate rescue of all abducted victims in Oyo State, stronger security operations in vulnerable communities, and a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s security architecture.
