The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Saturday visited communities affected by the recent attack and abduction incident in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The visit followed the deadly attack which occurred in the early hours of Friday, May 15, 2026, during which several persons were reportedly killed while others were abducted by armed gunmen.

During the visit, the IGP expressed deep concern over the incident and extended condolences to families of those who lost their lives in the attack. He assured residents that security agencies were fully committed to rescuing the abducted victims and restoring peace to the affected communities.

Disu was accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, Ojo Adekimi, owing to the strategic location of the Oriire axis near border communities in Kwara State. Also part of the delegation was the Commissioner of Police, Schools Protection Squad, Abayomi Shogunle, as authorities intensified efforts to strengthen security around schools and improve emergency response measures.

The Inspector-General also met with the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, alongside other security stakeholders, where he received detailed operational briefings on ongoing rescue efforts, intelligence gathering and tactical deployments across the affected areas.

Speaking during the visit, Disu assured residents, parents and guardians that the Nigeria Police Force, working closely with other security agencies, had intensified coordinated search-and-rescue operations aimed at securing the safe return of all abducted victims and tracking down those responsible for the attack.

He described the incident as “cruel and unacceptable,” stressing that security agencies would spare no effort in ensuring that the perpetrators are arrested and brought to justice.

The IGP further directed the deployment of additional tactical and intelligence assets to reinforce ongoing security operations within the area and surrounding forests believed to be hideouts for criminal elements.

Residents of the affected communities welcomed the visit, expressing hope that the renewed security efforts would help bring an end to the growing insecurity in the area. Many community members also appealed for sustained security presence, particularly around schools and rural communities vulnerable to attacks.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to the protection of schools, communities and citizens across the country, assuring Nigerians that efforts were ongoing to strengthen security operations and prevent further attacks.
