Michael Oyedokun, one of the teachers abducted during the attack on Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, has reportedly been killed by the kidnappers, deepening fears over the worsening security situation in the area.

The attack occurred on Friday, May 15, when heavily armed gunmen stormed the school premises and abducted the principal, several teachers and a number of students during the invasion. The incident sent panic across the community, forcing residents, parents and school authorities into desperate efforts to secure the release of the victims.

Residents of the area said the gunmen invaded the school unexpectedly, causing chaos as students and staff attempted to flee for safety. The attackers reportedly operated for several minutes before escaping with their victims into nearby bushes, while security operatives and local vigilante groups later launched search efforts in the surrounding communities.

The latest tragedy comes amid rising concerns over insecurity in Oyo State and other parts of the country, especially following recent reports of kidnappings and attacks along major roads and rural communities. The incident also occurred weeks after a failed kidnap attempt along the Ibadan-Ijebu road which reportedly left one traveler dead, raising fresh fears among residents over the increasing activities of criminal gangs.

Tension escalated further after a disturbing video allegedly released by the kidnappers surfaced online on Sunday, May 17, reportedly showing the killing of Oyedokun. The video has since triggered widespread outrage and sorrow among residents, education stakeholders and concerned Nigerians, many of whom have called for urgent government intervention to rescue the remaining victims.

The reported killing has thrown the Ahoro-Esinele community into mourning, with many residents expressing shock and sadness over the development. Families of the abducted victims have continued to plead with security agencies and the Oyo State Government to intensify rescue operations and ensure the safe return of those still in captivity.

Community leaders and residents have also appealed for stronger security presence around schools and rural communities, warning that repeated attacks could discourage parents from sending their children to school. Some residents expressed fears that the growing insecurity could disrupt academic activities and create long-term fear among students and teachers.

The attack has further renewed conversations about the need for improved intelligence gathering, community policing and increased collaboration between security agencies and local communities in tackling kidnapping and banditry.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities were yet to officially confirm the reported killing, while efforts to rescue the remaining abducted victims were said to be ongoing.
