Seyi Makinde is expected to formally declare his presidential ambition on Thursday, May 14, during a major political rally scheduled to hold at Mapo Hall.
The event, tagged “Unity Mega Rally Ibadan 2026,” is expected to mark the official launch of Makinde’s anticipated 2027 presidential bid, alongside the unveiling of a political alliance involving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), and other coalition-backed candidates aligned with the governor’s political structure.
Political observers believe the move forms part of a wider strategy aimed at strengthening grassroots support across Oyo State and expanding Makinde’s political influence on the national stage.
Sources within the political camp disclosed that consultations among stakeholders have intensified in recent weeks amid unresolved internal challenges within the PDP at the national level, prompting some loyalists and political actors to consider alternative political arrangements.
The rally is expected to attract political stakeholders, youth groups, community leaders, traditional supporters, and allies from different parts of the country, particularly individuals believed to support Makinde’s leadership style and political vision.
Although Governor Makinde has yet to officially confirm his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, support groups and political associates have continued to mount pressure on him to join the race.
