President Bola Tinubu has approved Nigeria’s bid to host the 2026 Confederation of African Football Awards and the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly.

The approval was announced during the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, following a meeting between Tinubu and CAF President Patrice Motsepe.

Also present at the meeting were Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Nigeria Football Federation President Ibrahim Gusau, former NFF President Amaju Pinnick, and CAF Acting General Secretary Samson Adamu.

The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed that the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly will hold in October 2026, bringing together football administrators and representatives from CAF’s 54 member associations and zonal unions across Africa.

The CAF Awards ceremony is regarded as one of African football’s biggest events, celebrating outstanding players, teams, and officials across the continent.

Nigeria has previously hosted the CAF Awards on four occasions, with Lagos hosting the most recent edition in 2015.
