A wave of defections has reportedly hit the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State amid speculation that Governor Seyi Makinde may be considering a move to another political party following the lingering crisis within the PDP.
Several serving political office holders and aspirants for the 2027 general elections are said to have resigned their membership of the party since Tuesday.
Among those who reportedly resigned are Anthon y Adebayo Adepoju, representing Ibarapa Central and North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives; Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide, representing Ibadan North-west/Ibadan South-west Federal Constituency; the Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Akeem Olatunji; and PDP governorship aspirant Ajadi Oguntoyinbo.
Adepoju, popularly known as Ibarapakan, said he was leaving the party because of the leadership crisis rocking the PDP.
Olatunji, in a resignation letter dated May 5, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of Ward 5 in Oluyole Local Government, attributed his decision to disagreements among the party’s leadership at the national level.
Oguntoyinbo also cited the lingering internal crisis within the party, saying it could pose legal challenges to his governorship ambition in the future.
Another party member, Odidiomo, described the decision as difficult but necessary due to prevailing realities within the party structure and his desire to continue pursuing his political aspirations.
There are also reports that Governor Makinde may announce the Allied Peoples Movement as the new political platform for his loyalists, supporters and aspirants ahead of the 2027 elections.
Meanwhile, former Commissioner of Police in Lagos and Benue States, Fatai Ajani Owoseni, recently resigned as Special Adviser on Security to Governor Makinde and Executive Secretary of the Oyo State Security Trust Fund.
His resignation is believed to be linked to his reported ambition to contest the Oyo State governorship election in 2027, with indications that he may soon unveil a new political platform.
