A former Commissioner of Police in Lagos and Benue States, Fatai Ajani Owoseni, has resigned from his positions as Special Adviser on Security to Governor Seyi Makinde and Executive Secretary of the Oyo State Security Trust Fund.
Owoseni announced his resignation in a letter dated May 7, 2026, addressed to the governor through the Office of the Chief of Staff, stating that his decision takes immediate effect.
In the letter, the retired police commissioner expressed appreciation to Governor Makinde for the opportunity to serve the state, describing his time in office as a privilege.
He noted that his responsibilities in government included representing Oyo State at the Forum of National and Subnational Security Officials in the Office of the National Security Adviser, as well as serving on the board of the Oyo State Security Network, Amotekun.
Owoseni also disclosed that details of the bank accounts belonging to the Oyo State Security Trust Fund, for which he served as signatory, had been attached to aid a smooth transition process.
According to him, he would remain available to facilitate necessary changes relating to the accounts and provide professional advice on security matters whenever required.
The former police commissioner further thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in him and prayed for continued success and divine guidance for the administration in moving Oyo State forward.
His resignation has, however, sparked political speculation within the state, with indications that the move may be connected to plans to contest the Oyo State governorship election in 2027.
There are also strong suggestions that Owoseni may soon unveil a new political platform as preparations for the next electoral cycle gradually gather momentum across the state.
