The Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced a planned power outage in parts of Ibadan, Oyo State, due to scheduled maintenance at the Ayede Transmission Substation.
According to the company, the outage is necessary to allow engineers carry out annual preventive maintenance on a 100MVA 132/33kV transformer. The exercise is scheduled to take place from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., during which the affected transformer will be temporarily shut down.
The maintenance is part of routine efforts to keep transmission infrastructure in optimal working condition and to prevent unexpected breakdowns that could lead to more prolonged disruptions in the future. TCN explained that such periodic checks are critical for ensuring stable and efficient power supply across the network.
As a result of the shutdown, the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company will be unable to receive bulk electricity supply from the substation for onward distribution to customers in some parts of the city. Areas expected to be affected include Express, Industrial, and Oluyole, where residents and businesses may experience temporary power interruptions within the stated period.
Electricity supply is expected to be restored immediately after the completion of the maintenance work, once the transformer is returned to service. Residents in the affected areas are advised to plan accordingly and take necessary precautions ahead of the temporary outage.
