Properties and valuable equipment were extensively damaged following two separate fire incidents that struck parts of Oyo State within 24 hours, raising fresh concerns about fire safety practices in homes and workplaces.

The first incident occurred on Thursday at an aluminum company situated around Km 110 in the Iyaganku area of Ibadan. The blaze reportedly broke out during the day and quickly escalated, engulfing a building used as an administrative office alongside an adjoining warehouse stocked with materials and equipment. By the time emergency responders arrived at the scene, the fire had already spread significantly, consuming large portions of the structure and its contents.

Preliminary findings indicate that the fire was triggered by electrical sparks from an appliance that had been left plugged in and unattended. The sparks are believed to have ignited nearby combustible materials, leading to a rapid spread of flames throughout the building. Firefighters battled the inferno and eventually succeeded in bringing it under control, preventing it from extending to nearby structures. However, substantial losses were recorded, with critical business assets and operational materials destroyed in the process.

In a separate development, a residential building in Ogbomoso was also affected by fire on Wednesday. The incident occurred in an older-style building, where the first room on the right-hand side was completely engulfed by flames before help arrived. The intensity of the fire caused significant damage to the affected section of the building, though swift intervention by emergency services helped to contain the situation and avert further destruction to other parts of the residence.

While no casualties were reported in either incident, the back-to-back occurrences have highlighted the persistent risks associated with electrical faults and the importance of vigilance in handling electrical appliances. Authorities emphasized that both fires were successfully contained due to prompt response efforts, but noted that many such incidents can be prevented through basic safety measures.

Residents and business owners have been advised to routinely inspect electrical installations, avoid leaving appliances plugged in when not in use, and ensure that flammable materials are stored safely away from potential ignition sources. The incidents serve as a reminder of how quickly minor electrical issues can escalate into major emergencies if not properly managed.
