Some corps members undergoing the mandatory three-week National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation exercise in Oyo State have raised concerns over poor living conditions at the camp located in Iseyin.

The corps members complained about irregular electricity supply and difficulty accessing water, saying the situation has made daily activities at the camp challenging since the commencement of the programme. According to them, power supply has been inconsistent, affecting water pumping and other basic needs.

Some of the participants also alleged that the shortage of water has affected personal hygiene, forcing some of them to attend official activities without proper bathing due to limited access at certain times. Female corps members, in particular, expressed concern about the impact of the situation on their comfort and well-being.

There were also claims that corps members had been cautioned against sharing complaints on social media, which some said has made many participants hesitant to speak openly about the conditions in the camp.

However, NYSC officials in the state have maintained that water supply has not been cut off, explaining that water is being pumped regularly using available power sources despite challenges with electricity supply. They also noted that efforts are ongoing to ensure adequate welfare for corps members throughout the orientation period.

Conditions at orientation camps across the country have continued to attract attention in recent years, with recurring concerns over infrastructure, utilities, and general welfare of participants during the programme.
