The Oyo State Governor’s Advisory Council has concluded the screening and stakeholder engagement exercise initiated by Governor Seyi Makinde.

The exercise, led by Council Chairman Bolaji Ayorinde, involved consultations with individuals aspiring to contest the state’s governorship. It was aimed at ensuring a level playing field while evaluating the preparedness and capacity of potential candidates.

According to the council, engagements with the aspirants have been completed and a comprehensive report has been submitted to the governor. The outcome was described as both revealing and reassuring, with several aspirants demonstrating strong competence and a solid understanding of governance.

The council noted that the calibre of individuals seeking to lead the state reflects positively on its political future. It also observed that many of the aspirants are aligned with the current administration, indicating that continuity of existing policies and programmes could shape the next phase of leadership.

Emphasising the need to sustain progress, the council stated that the state must not fall below the standards already established, a position seen as favouring candidates committed to the present development agenda.

Members of the advisory council include notable political figures such as Monsurat Sunmonu, Michael Lana, Babs Oduyoye, and Gbenga Babalola, among others.

The aspirants who participated in the process include Saheed Akinade Fijabi, Isiaka Abiola Olagunju, Dahud Sanya Sangodoyin, Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, Adejumibi Samuel Ademola, and Abdulsabul Abiola Olawoore.

The development signals early political positioning ahead of the next governorship election, with the advisory council playing a significant role in shaping succession discussions.
