Two people sustained gunshot injuries during a failed kidnap attempt in the Old Kara area of Bodija, within Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, the incident occurred around 7:50 p.m. on April 21, 2026. He explained that the swift response of security operatives, supported by local hunters, thwarted what was believed to be a planned abduction.
Police said they received a distress call from a resident reporting that about four armed men had invaded a Point of Sale (POS) outlet in the area and opened fire. Officers quickly mobilised to the scene, disrupting the attackers’ operation.
During the exchange of gunfire, two individuals were injured but were promptly rescued and taken to a medical facility, where they are currently responding to treatment.
Security agencies have launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects, with intensified bush-combing operations underway across the area.
The Commissioner of Police has also ordered the deployment of additional personnel to vulnerable locations to strengthen security and prevent further criminal activity.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives and property, while urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements.
