The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has assured subscribers that compensation for poor quality of service will begin immediately, following its directive to telecommunications operators.

The Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Aminu Maida, disclosed this while speaking to journalists at a media roundtable in Ikeja. He stated that affected customers would start receiving compensation in the form of airtime within 24 to 48 hours.

Maida explained that the directive to compensate subscribers was part of ongoing efforts to improve service delivery and hold telecom operators accountable for network performance.

He also noted that the NCC is collaborating with the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) to address issues surrounding suspended airtime credit and data services, with the aim of ensuring uninterrupted access for subscribers.

According to him, while telecom operators licensed by the NCC are not required to obtain additional licences from the FCCPC, third-party providers offering credit services to subscribers must be duly licensed by the consumer protection agency.

The Commission reiterated its commitment to safeguarding consumer rights and improving the overall quality of telecommunications services across the country.
