Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have killed a member of the Man O’ War Nigeria, Dasola Sanusi, following an ambush on commuters along the Ibadan–Ago-Iwoye Expressway linking Oyo State and Ogun State.
The attack occurred around 6:30 pm on Saturday as a group of officers was returning from an outing in Ibadan. Shortly after passing the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria area, armed men opened fire indiscriminately on vehicles along the route.
Despite coming under heavy gunfire, the officers managed to escape the scene, though several sustained gunshot wounds. They were later taken to a hospital in Ago-Iwoye for treatment.
Sanusi was confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital due to the injuries she sustained. Another officer, identified as Emmanuel, is currently receiving treatment for gunshot wounds, while two female officers were hospitalised for trauma.
The incident has been confirmed by the organisation, which stated that investigations are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
The Oyo State Police Command also confirmed the incident, describing it as an attempted kidnapping involving commuters along the expressway. Police operatives reportedly responded promptly, preventing the attackers from abducting passengers.
Authorities said the injured victims were rescued and taken for medical care, while investigations continue to track down those responsible.
