Barring any last-minute change, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, is expected to resign his position to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State.

According to sources within government circles, the minister may step down either today or before the end of the week. His planned resignation comes after the March 31 deadline earlier given to political appointees, but follows a recent meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, where he reportedly disclosed his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election.

After the meeting at the Presidential Villa, Adelabu is said to have also consulted key political figures, including Adebisi Akande and Pius Akinyelure.

Adelabu previously contested the governorship election in 2019 under the All Progressives Congress and again in 2023 on the platform of the Accord Party. He is expected to seek the ticket of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 election.

The party has scheduled its governorship primary for May 23, 2026, with nomination forms set to be sold between April 25 and May 2.

If he formally declares, Adelabu will join other aspirants in the race, including Sarafadeen Alli and Oyedele Alao.
