ECOWAS TO APPROVE NIGER, MALI, B’FASO’S WITHDRAWAL JAN 29

The Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS has officially approved the withdrawal of Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso from the regional bloc.

The ECOWAS President, Dr Omar Touray who disclosed this at the end of the 66th Ordinary Summit of the Authority of Heads of State and ECOWAS Commission hinted that the decision was taken by the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government.

Dr Touray, said the approval, which marks a significant shift in the geopolitical landscape of West Africa, will formally cease the three countries from being members of ECOWAS on January 29, 2025.
