The Lagos State Government has convened electricity regulators, distribution companies, resellers and suppliers to address persistent power supply challenges and develop strategies for achieving reliable, round-the-clock electricity across the state.
The Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Biodun Ogunleye, disclosed this on Thursday during a press briefing ahead of the 2026 Lagos Energy Summit scheduled to hold from November 10 to 12.
Ogunleye said the summit would provide an opportunity for stakeholders to examine structural challenges in the electricity sector and develop practical solutions to improve power generation, distribution, metering and alternative energy supply.
The ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Ibilola Kasumu, said the summit would focus on addressing specific industry problems rather than limiting discussions to policy speeches and presentations.
She expressed optimism that the meeting would produce practical solutions towards achieving uninterrupted electricity supply in Lagos and potentially provide a model for other states.
Ogunleye added that discussions would cover electricity sector reforms, energy efficiency, renewable energy, metering solutions and alternative energy sources.
He also disclosed that the state government was engaging the Federal Government to clarify their respective regulatory responsibilities and strengthen Lagos State’s control over its energy infrastructure.
The summit, themed “Lagos Energy Evolution: Transforming the Future,” will also showcase clean-energy innovations developed by secondary school students and bring together government officials, private investors, energy experts, academics and innovators.
