An All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial aspirant for Zamfara North, Sani Ahmed Shinkafi, has rejected the party’s primary election in the district, alleging irregularities in the exercise.
The dispute followed conflicting announcements over the outcome of the primary, with the committee chairman reportedly declaring Senator Sahabi Alhaji Ya’u Kaura the winner, while another committee member announced Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura as the successful candidate.
Shinkafi also denied reaching any consensus agreement with Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura or any other aspirant ahead of the election.
He alleged that the exercise violated the APC’s primary election guidelines and the Electoral Act 2026, insisting that no credible voting process took place.
The aspirant called on the APC National Chairman, National Working Committee and National Election Appeals Committee to nullify the exercise. He also urged the party not to submit either of the disputed candidates’ names to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Shinkafi demanded a fresh direct primary across the four local government areas in Zamfara North, to be monitored by INEC and conducted by a committee appointed by the party’s National Working Committee.
He further threatened legal action against Senators Sahabi Ya’u Kaura and Tijjani Yahaya Kaura if the party failed to address his complaints.
