FG Pays D’Tigress Players $100,000 Each

The Federal Government has paid the naira equivalent of $100,000 to each player of Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket.

The National Sports Commission also confirmed the payment of the naira equivalent of $50,000 to each team official.

The payments were made on September 9, 2026, with all players and officials confirming receipt.

D’Tigress won the Afrobasket title for a record fifth consecutive time and seventh overall in 2025.

The cash payment completes the Presidential Reward promised to the team by President Bola Tinubu, which also included three-bedroom apartments in Abuja and national honours of the Order of the Niger.

The NSC said the players and officials had earlier received the title documents for their apartments and certificates of national honours.

The commission said the reward reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to the welfare and recognition of Nigerian athletes.
