Lagos State has unveiled its 2025–2027 HIV Strategic Plan aimed at strengthening HIV prevention, testing, treatment and care across the state.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency, Dr Folakemi Animashaun, said the plan would provide a framework for coordinating HIV programmes, resources and partnerships towards achieving measurable results by 2027.
She said while Lagos had recorded progress in HIV prevention, testing and treatment, gaps remained in reaching underserved communities, expanding testing, linking people living with HIV to treatment and ensuring they remain in care.
Animashaun urged stakeholders to intensify efforts to achieve the targets set out in the strategic plan.
She also stressed the importance of collaboration among government agencies, healthcare providers, development partners, civil society organisations and communities in strengthening the state’s HIV response.
According to her, adequate resources, effective coordination and evidence-based interventions will be critical to achieving a sustainable HIV response in Lagos.
The strategic plan will guide HIV interventions across the state, with emphasis on improving access to prevention, testing, treatment and long-term care for people living with HIV.
Twelve state governors whose tenures will end in 2027 and early 2028 are set to leave behind a combined debt burden of about N5.3 trillion, according to data from the Debt Management Office.
