Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes says his future with the national team is uncertain following a 10-match FIFA suspension and Lionel Messi’s retirement from international football.
Paredes was handed the suspension for his involvement in a confrontation with Spain players after Argentina’s 1-0 defeat in the 2026 World Cup final.
The Boca Juniors midfielder said the ban, combined with Messi’s departure, could make it difficult for him to continue with the national team.
“Because of the suspension as well as Leo’s decision, it’s going to be difficult for everything to carry on as before,” Paredes said.
He added that he would discuss his future with head coach Lionel Scaloni before making a decision.
Messi recently announced his retirement from international football after a career that saw him lead Argentina to the 2022 World Cup title. He leaves the national team as its record goalscorer and most-capped player, with 125 goals in 207 appearances.
