Several members of the National Youth Service Corps have been abducted along the Aloma-Egane Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The corps members were travelling from the NYSC orientation camp in Bayelsa State towards Abuja when armed hoodlums reportedly attacked two buses around Ogene Zaria, near the Ogene Zaria/Onicha-Igo Junction.

The Kogi State Police Command said security operatives immediately launched a rescue operation after receiving a distress call. Eleven abducted victims, including the drivers of the two buses, were rescued.

According to the police, most of those rescued were NYSC members. The victims were debriefed and later allowed to continue their journey after necessary procedures.

Two abandoned vehicles, including a Peace Mass Transit Hummer bus and a yellow 18-seater bus, were also recovered from the scene.

The police said efforts are ongoing to rescue other victims, with operational and intelligence resources deployed to the area.

Meanwhile, families of some of the abducted corps members have appealed for assistance on social media, alleging that the kidnappers demanded N20 million in ransom.
