Canada extends study permit wait time for Nigerians to 9 weeks

Nigerians applying for Canadian study permits will now have to wait an estimated nine weeks for their applications to be processed, according to the latest update by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

The new processing time is one week longer than the previous estimate of eight weeks.

IRCC updated its temporary residence processing estimates on August 19, with changes recorded across several categories.

For Nigerian applicants, work permit processing remains unchanged at nine weeks.

IRCC said processing times are estimates and may change depending on application volumes, processing capacity and the number of applications in its inventory. Applications may also take longer if they are incomplete, complex or require additional verification.

Prospective international students are advised to factor the estimated processing period into their plans and apply for study permits as soon as they receive their letters of acceptance.
