Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has announced a N500 million endowment fund for victims of pre-election violence in the state.
Adeleke announced the initiative on Wednesday while receiving his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission following his re-election.
The governor’s Special Assistant on Digital Media, Olalekan Badmu, said the fund was established in honour of those affected by the violence recorded before the August 15 governorship election.
He also disclosed that the Adeleke family would provide full scholarships up to university level for children of people who died in the violence.
According to Badmu, beneficiaries will be selected across political party lines, while a special committee headed by the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, will handle verification and compilation.
Adeleke also called for unity among residents, saying the election was over and it was time to govern, heal and build the state.
The governor defeated the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, in the August 15 election, winning 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas.
