The Kaduna State Police Command has ordered an investigation into officers captured in a viral video allegedly extorting money from motorists and cyclists during a stop-and-search operation in Millennium City.
The Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, directed that the officers involved be identified and investigated, with anyone found culpable to face disciplinary action.
Police spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, said routine roadblocks and stop-and-search operations have been curtailed except where there is credible intelligence on criminal activity.
The command said the location featured in the video had previously been used by criminal elements, noting that police had recovered 20 AK-47 rifles along the route in an earlier operation.
The CP stressed that no officer is permitted to use security duties for extortion, harassment or misconduct, and urged residents to continue reporting unprofessional conduct.
