The Federal Government has directed tertiary institutions to dismiss any student found culpable, after due investigation, of involvement in kidnapping or related criminal activities.

The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, gave the directive during a meeting with the management of the Federal University of Lafia in Abuja.

Alausa also ordered tertiary institutions to strengthen internal intelligence systems and collaborate with security agencies to improve campus safety.

He said the directive followed reports of students allegedly involved in kidnapping activities outside their campuses, stressing that tertiary institutions must not become safe havens for criminals.

The minister also reiterated the Federal Government’s position against negotiating with or paying ransom to kidnappers.
